Photo Contest Categories Explained

Confusing to many new, and sometimes experienced, photographers are the multitude of categories in photo contests.  We sit and scratch our heads trying to understand the meaning of “Fine Art Landscapes” versus “Nature Landscapes.”  Apparently, an all-in-compassing guide to categories does not exist.  However, a little internet research can help photographers pick the correct entry category.  The International Photography Awards (IPA) has an excellent explanation of categories that can be used as a starting point.  See Categories | International Photography Awards™ (photoawards.com).

James Black was awarded an Honorable Mention for his series of black and white photographs titled “Color Blind.”  “The Prix de la Photographie, Paris (PX3) is a photography award that strives to promote appreciation of photography, discover emerging talent, and introduce photographers from around the world to the artistic community of Paris.”  “The Paris Photography Prize was founded in 2007 and has since become one of the most prestigious photography awards in Europe.”
